Chamber's of Commerce are a form of
business network comprised primarily of people in business. There are
approximately 11,800 chambers of commerce in the United States. Of
those, approximately 8,500 have paid staff members who manage the
organization. The Neighborhood
Chamber of Commerce was organized primarily to promote the commercial
interests of businesspersons & merchants in the community. The first
Chambers of Commerce were founded in 1599 in Marseille, France & Brugge,
Belgium. The world's oldest English-speaking chamber of commerce is that of
Glasgow, Scotland, established in 1783.
Today, there are many different Chambers of Commerce
in the United States
who's membership range from a few dozen to well over 300,000 (as is the
case with the Paris Chamber of Commerce & Industry). Chambers of Commerce
can range in size from a single city or town Chamber, to a County Chamber,
Regional Chamber, or even an International Chamber of Commerce.
Neighborhood Chambers of Commerce are made up of individuals &
associations that have common commercial interests. Business owners in
your city/county/region have at least 1000 local, regional, national,
industry, ethnic, race, & neighborhood specific Chambers of Commerce
available to join in your area alone. There are approximately 11,800
Chambers of Commerce in the United States. Of those, approximately
8,500 have paid staff members who manage the organization. The
professional staff at chambers may be a part-time executive or even
unpaid volunteer, or there may be as many as 150 employees at the
largest chambers in the United States.
Chambers of
Commerce are known to be largely responsible for deciding who will
become the mayor, elected judges, prosecutors, police, and sheriff's.
